The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is held every year to help students secure admission to the top medical institutions in India. This year, students competed for 63835 medical seats in private, central and state-funded institutions. Including AIIMS and JIPMER, NEET is widely considered to be one of the main medical entrance examinations for students in India. All major dental and medical colleges offer students admission on the basis of their scores in this exam only.
More than 14 lakh candidates gave NEET in 136 cities. This year, the examination was conducted in 11 different languages – English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese, Gujarati, Oriya, Kannada and Urdu.
1. The minimum age limit for NEET is 17 years on 31 December of the year of admission.
2. The upper age limit for NEET is 25 years for General candidates and 30 years for reserved categories.
12th or Other Equivalent Examination: Students must have passed or should be appearing for their 12th or equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or any other elective subject with English. Along with this, the candidate should fulfill the following criteria.
1. 10+2 or HSC with 45% marks for General Category i.e. the candidate must have passed in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology with a minimum aggregate of 45%.
2. 10+2 or HSC with 40% marks for OBC, SC and ST Categories i.e. the candidate must have passed in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology with a minimum aggregate of 40%.
3. The qualifying marks for candidates in PH and PwD categories stands at 40% marks for Gen-PH and 40% for SC-PH, ST-PH and OBC-PH candidates with locomotory disability of lower limbs.
No. of attempts: There is no limit on the number of attempts till the age of 25 years.
Pattern of the Test : The Test pattern of NEET (UG) comprises of two Sections. Each subject will consist of two sections. Section A will consist of 35 Questions and Section B will have 15 questions, out of these 15 Questions, candidates can choose to attempt any 10 Questions. So, the total number of questions and utilization of time will remain the same.
The number of total questions in the NEET exam is 200 but aspirants have to attempt only 180 questions.
NEET (UG) – is a Pen & Paper-based Test, to be answered on the specially designed machine gradable OMR sheet using Ball Point Pen.
